There's still a little time to
get your submission in to
the Scotch Plains - Fanwood
"Movies in May" Independent Film Festival

There is still a little time left for local filmmakers, students and residents are all invited to submit their films for possible inclusion in a local film festival being planned for May 6th and 7th, 2005.

Movies in May" is an Independent Film Festival celebrating local talent and featuring films and film-related events created by students and residents from the surrounding community. It is jointly sponsored by the Fanwood Memorial Library, the Scotch Plains Public Library, Scotch Plains' Palmer Video and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District. Festival events will be presented at both libraries.

While plans continue to develop for the festival we're excited to report that MOVIES IN MAY will work in concert with WESTFILM, a film festival in Westfield, NJ. This event, to be held on two Monday nights in May, the 2nd and 9th, will bookend the MOVIES IN MAY activities making for a week of films and film related events for movie makers and movie lovers.

On Wednesday evening, May 4 MOVIES IN MAY will be honored to present a screening of FINDING NEVERLAND at the Fanwood Memorial Library. This screening will be enhanced by a presentation from Mr. David McGee, who garnered many well deserved nominations in 2005 for his outstanding Screenplay including the Oscar [Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published], the Golden Globe Awards [Best Screenplay - Motion Picture], the Amercian Screenwriters Association [Discover Screenwriting Award], the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards [Best Screenplay - Adapted] & the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award [Best Writer]). Mr. Magee is also a resident of Scotch Plains and will additionally take part in the Filmakers Forum at the Scotch Plains Public Library on the afternoon of Saturday, May 7. There will be a film related event at the SPPL on Thursday evening, May 5 as well as screenings at the FML on May 6.

A feature by local filmaker Peter Paul Basler called "AS COOL AS JENNIFER" will anchor one of the main nights of MOVIES IN MAY. Mr. Bassler, who is also involved with the Westfilm Festival, will also take part in Saturday's Film Makers Forum. More details and MOVIES IN MAY events will be coming soon!
