The 2nd Annual
MOVIES IN MAY 2006
THURSDAY, MAY 18 and FRIDAY, MAY 19, 2006 !!

Movies in May" is an Independent Film Festival celebrating local talent and featuring films and film-related events created by students and residents from the surrounding community. It is jointly sponsored by the Fanwood Memorial Library, the Scotch Plains Public Library, The Friends groups of both libraries, Scotch Plains' Palmer Video, Bill McMeekan and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District. Festival events will be presented at both libraries and will again feature a fantastic two days of films and film related events for movie makers and movie lovers!(Refreshments WILL be served)

This year's events feature, on Thursday, May 18 starting at 6:00 p.m., a Filmmakers Forum: Professionals from a variety of disciplines in the film industry come together to discuss their work, show some examples of and talk about what they do, how they got started, what inspires them and more. A compelling program for students, those who aspire to work in film or television, movie buffs, film lovers and just about everyone else.

The Forum Panel will feature:

*** DAVID MAGEE (Oscar Nominated Screenwriter - Finding Neverland)
*** AMY BUCHER (Documentary Producer, Engel Entertainment, NYC)
*** JACK GORDON (Filmmaker)
*** SEAN DEVANEY (Senior at the Tisch School, NYC - Filmmaker)


Drectly following the Filmmakers Forum will be almost 3 hours of SCREENINGS showing 18 different films ranging from 2 minutes to 30 minutes long including works by Bill McMeekan, Wes Lorenzini, The Clark Family, Adam Chinoy, Sean Devaney, Rachel Gordon and more.

A very special program is planned for Friday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. when New York-based film archivist Russell Scholl presents "Jumpin' Jive!: Music shorts before the MTV-era"
"Long before MTV was a gleam in Viacom's eye, jazz, blues, and pop artists were filming some of their favorite numbers. Featuring some of the finest moments of these early music shorts and compiled them. From 1920s hot jazz to 1940s honky-tonk and television-era gospel, these music films promise to turn even the most jaded audience members into giddy, gushing fools -- or we'll give you your money back."

Films include: Sister Rosetta Tharpe / Charlie Parker & Buddy Rich / The Mills Brothers / Django Reinhardt's Hot Club of France / Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys / The Delta Rhythm Boys / Fats Waller / Dorothy Dandridge / Louis Armstrong / Louis Jordan / Doc Watson / Hank Williams / George Jones / Nicholas Brothers /International Sweethearts of Rhythm ...and lots more!

Directly following the Program (which runs approximately 90 minutes) will be close to 2 More hours of SCREENINGS. Friday's offerings include 9 more films from Fanwood's own George Weiss ("The Last Sound You May Ever Hear"), Aex Forstenhausler, Cameron Sizemore, a screening of John Fazio's wonderful documentary, "Two Lords and a Lady" and much much more!
