FRIENDS 2018 Fall Book Sale
Browsers at the sale easily find books by subject matter: history, romance, classics, art, cookbooks, politics, crafts, science, parenting, children, and general fiction. In addition to hardbacks and paperbacks, the FRIENDS collect gently used DVDs and CDs, but not toys or games.
Proceeds from the sale fuel purchases of programs for people of all ages—from the kids’ summer reading program and hands-on animal shows to teen book clubs and adult concerts. Over the years, the sale has also enabled the library to buy a fax machine, an audiovisual system, and fireside furniture. To join the fun, volunteer!
We need volunteers! Contact Sally Hogan: firstname.lastname@example.org
Teachers with appropriate ID receive a 10% discount for classroom purchases.
The FRIENDS book sale could not succeed without the quality and quantity of materials provided by residents. All donations, sorting, and selling occur at Forest Road Park, 153 Forest Road, in the redbrick building.

Volunteer at the Book Sale
The BOOK SALE is held every September. This is our primary fundraiser for the library, and we need your help to make the sale a success. If you are interested in being a volunteer or chairing a committee or the book sale itself, please contact Carol Campell email@example.com We need help with sorting, setup and selling. Also, think about involving a friend in the sale. It will ensure successful staffing.
We really need you, and the volunteers always have a good time!
Dealers, if Friends members, are welcomed on Member’s night. No restrictions on scanners. After you select books to purchase, we will help you place them out of the browsing area. Any books you choose not to purchase need to be returned to their appropriate place. We look forward to seeing you and appreciate your business.
We would like to thank all donors, volunteers, buyers — everyone who made the 2017 sale our best ever!
* 2018 Growing Friends Campaign *
THANK YOU to all of the FRIENDS who have renewed their memberships. THANK YOU to NEW FRIENDS who have become members for the first time. WELCOME BACK to past FRIENDS who have rejoined after a lapse of their memberships.
Our JULY 4th, 2018 count of Friends members is 73, and here is an interesting perspective on the numbers during January through July 4:
* 38 FRIENDS renewed.
* 24 FRIENDS rejoined after a lapse of one or more years.
* 11 NEW FRIENDS were welcomed.
While we didn’t reach our goal of 100, we did reach the notable goal of MORE friends!
“GROWING FRIENDS” does not stop here. You can join any time during the year. Please use our online membership enrollment or visit the Library for an application form. Keep “GROWING FRIENDS” toward a new total on December 31.
Join us! Adults and teens are welcome! Our annual membership drive begins each spring when we mail our newsletter and membership form to all residents and members. But, feel free to join anytime. Many people join because they are library lovers or users and appreciate how much they get for their tax dollar.

Who We Are & What We Do
The Friends is a group of volunteers who help the town library be all that it can be. Established in 1986, we have become a 501(c)3 group that raises money for extras beyond the library’s annual budget — services, special items and programs — while promoting the joy of reading and use of other media. A board leads our membership of nearly 175 single and family members.
We are proud of:
- Funding all programs for children and adults
- Co-sponsoring the Museum Pass program with the Scotch Plains Library Friends
- Co-hosting many of the adult programs
- Contributing to the renovation of the children’s room
- Raising more than $12,000 at our annual book sale
- Providing funds for computers, projectors, and similar technology
In addition, we enjoy providing the flowers for the Garden Club to plant for Memorial Day, supplying refreshments for programs, and funding small requests that would otherwise go unfulfilled.
