The Florian Schantz Jazz Combo playing music from the World War 1 Era

November 10, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Florian Schantz Jazz Combo will present a program of music from World War I at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 10, at the Fanwood Public Library. Highlighting music that was popular between 1914 and 1918, the band will offer a mix of early Dixieland, military music and other standards, accompanied by educational content and narrative to honor the 100th anniversary of the WWI armistice.

The Union County based-band is led by 16 year old professional trumpet player Florian Schantz, who formed the group when he was 9 years old; since then, Florian has performed around 375 engagements across NJ, NY, CT and Germany.

Also appearing with the group are Rup Chattopadhyay on trombone and tuba, Margaret Schantz on fluegelhorn, Cory Ackerman on drums and Lowell Schantz on guitar.

Nancy’s first job was as a page in the Peninsula Public Library in Lawrence, NY. Her love of reading brought her back to libraries and she has now worked at the Fanwood Memorial Library for over 13 years. Nancy wears many hats here at the library including planning and supervising of adult and teen programming, other YA and teen activities, book selection and buying, working behind the circulation desk and more. Her hobbies include baking, and she once won the NJN Chocolate bake-off contest for her famous “La Grande Park Ice Skating Rink Cookies". If you see her walking to work, or at the library, say hi... and ask her for that recipe).
