Who We Are & What We Do

The Friends is a group of volunteers who help the town library be all that it can be. Established in 1986, we have become a 501(c)(3) organization that raises money for services, special items, and programs beyond the library’s annual budget, while promoting the joy of reading and use of other media. A board (see below) leads our membership of nearly 175 single and family members.

We are proud of our growing membership and raising more than $30,000 at our annual book sales over the past few years. These efforts enable us to:
Fund programs for children and adults
Co-sponsor Museum Pass with the Scotch Plains Library Friends
Purchase computers, projectors, and similar technology
Support online subscriptions for e-books, audio books, and the New York Times.
Contribute to the renovation of the children’s room
Provide plants the Garden Club installs downtown for passersby to enjoy all summer
We also supply refreshments for programs and fund small requests that would otherwise go unfulfilled.

Board

The Friends board does most of the organization’s work. But other great volunteers also help out, especially at the book sale.

Giving

The Friends welcome donations in many forms. You don’t have to be a member to donate in a small or big way. You can donate online here.

Give Small

Small donations may be part of a family celebration and remembrance. Parents could donate a book for a child’s birthday or graduation. Friends and family might start a collection for a loved one with a special interest.

Give Big

Distributing assets accumulated over a lifetime often requires expert advice. Planned giving may make a larger gift to the Friends possible, while lowering inheritance tax and leaving a legacy.

Give While You Shop

Amazon enables shoppers to support the Friends through AmazonSmile.amazonsmileInstead of going directly to Amazon, go to smile.amazon.com and select “Friends of the Fanwood Memorial Library.” Then shop as usual. AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible items to the Friends.

Newsletters

The Friends publish and snail-mail the newsletter each spring to every Fanwood residence. Inside, you’ll find a form to join us. Your membership qualifies you to also receive periodic updates via email.
